Solar morning at Village Hall
On Saturday 20th January over 20 people from the village met in the hall to listen to Tony Cooper from Transition Belper. We had practical advice on what we can do for our pockets and the planet around energy consumption - from such simple things as replacing conventional and halogen bulbs with LED (saving in a matter of a few weeks of the initial outlay) through to the installation of solar panels and battery storage.
A selection of insulating materials available for the DIY person through to more specialist jobs was on hand, demonstrating how they work and giving practical examples of where to use them and how to make them most effective – all very well received.
The continuing improvements in solar technology and battery innovation brought about by the automotive industry ,and offset with the removal of subsidies for selling back to the grid, means that solar installations have been slow over recent years. However it is now returning and the rising cost of energy and more awareness for the need to change are driving that increase.
For more information you can contact Transition Belper via their website www.transitionbelper.org and between 7th and 9th June 2024 they will be hosting their latest Belper Goes Green event.
Thanks need to go to Tony Cooper for his presentation and also to the Village Hall Trust for the free use of the hall, Colin for opening/shutting, Anne for delicious biscuits, Viv for equally delicious cakes and Hugh for his technical know-how!!
